Questions people ask first
How long does a divorce take?
The application itself takes about six months from start to final order. Sorting out finances usually runs alongside it and takes six to fourteen months depending on how much you agree.
Do we have to go to court?
Rarely. Most of our family matters settle by agreement or mediation. Court is the last option, and we tell you what it would cost before anyone applies.
Do we have to go to court to divorce?
No. Most divorces and financial settlements are agreed without a hearing. We only go to court when talking has stopped working, and we tell you before that point.
Can money and children be sorted during the divorce?
The legal process takes about six months from application to final order. Sorting money and children can run alongside it or take longer, depending on how much you agree.
Can I see my children while we sort things out?
Usually yes. Interim arrangements are agreed early so the children keep a steady routine while the rest is worked out.
